EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT RSU SUMMER BALL 2018

ELLA EYRE

For most people, having a BRIT, a MOBO, a No.1 single and a top 5 album - all before the age of 22 - would be achievement enough for a lifetime. But Ella Eyre isn’t most people.

From the moment she tore onto the scene as a fiercely energetic, lion-haired 19-year-old, lending her precociously soulful voice to Rudimental’s chart topping single ‘Waiting All Night’, Eyre didn’t pause for breath. She picked up a BRIT Award for British Single Of The Year, co-wrote another UK No.1 single, Sigma’s ‘Changing’, won Best Newcomer at the MOBOs and finally, after a handful of high charting solo singles, released her debut album, Feline, in 2015. But after all that, she’s still on a mission to prove her worth.

Eyre recently whet the appetite of fans anxious for new music with her Sigala collaboration, ‘Came Here For Love’, which racked up millions of streams in a matter of days when it was released in 2017, and which she recently performed to 80,000 people at Wembley Stadium. But it’s her new solo single, ‘Ego’, that she’s most excited for fans to hear. The song more than delivers on her promise of full-on, straight-up pop – but its playful edge, combined with Eyre’s rich, soulful vocals and a guest verse from Ty Dolla Sign, ensures this is no throwaway hit.

Ella Eyre takes to the Pete Brooke Main Stage as RSU Summer Ball 2018 headliner; she will be joined by her full touring band which is set to create a spectacular close to the main stage line up for this year.

LETHAL BIZZLE

This artist needs no introduction, a constant brand in UK music for over a decade, Lethal Bizzle has had huge success with hits from ‘Pow’ and ‘Rari-Workout’ through to ‘Fester Skank’.

Starting his career as a grime MC, he went on to experiment with blending mainstream chart genres (dance/pop) with grim music, releasing a number of singles and 3 albums along the way.

Another busy summer is in store for Lethal, you can find him entertaining crowds at We Are FSTVL, Pennfest and South West four… but more importantly, right here on campus for RSU Summer Ball 2018!

KELLI LEIGH

Kelli-Leigh is one of South London’s very own, she credits her inspirations from a childhood of growing up to the sounds of Whitney Houston and Prince and after touring with Adele on her 21 album, she went on to launch her solo career.

Since then, she has had huge success as the vocalist on Duke Dumont’s ‘I Got U’ and Second City’s ‘I Wanna Feel That’, both of which hit the UK number 1 spot! She hit the charts again when she featured on ‘More Than Friends’ with James Hype, making the top 10 in the charts once more.

She will be entertaining the RSU Summer Ball crowd with those huge number 1 hits as well as her own solo tracks. She has an exciting summer lined up, starting right here at Roehampton.

DAY TIME HEADLINER
WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON.

THE MARIACHIS

The Mariachis are the official band of the Doritos TV commercials. Commencing June 2012, the campaign featured them singing pop classics with a Mexican twist, with their versions of the Human League’s ‘Don’t You Want Me’, East 17’s ‘Stay Another Day’ and Joan Jett’s ‘I Love Rock & Roll’. They received over 13.5m online video views and 500,000 facebook likes.

The four band members all hail from South America and have appeared at major music festivals including Glastonbury, Wireless, Henley & Cambridge, along with international events such as the Autostadt festival in Germany. 2016 saw them play at UK festivals including The Lunar Festival, Grillfest, Bedford River Festival, The Chilli Festival and alongside Major Lazar at the Fiesta De Los Muertos, Dubai

ROEHAMPTON JAZZ BAND

DJ's

SILENT SOCIAL

Silent Social has become a staple part of our Freshers’ Week and Summer Ball line-ups. And there’s a reason for that – it’s awesome. So, of course it is returning this year at SB18! Get your headphones on and head into the marquee tent, where you can hop between two channels with two completely different DJs orchestrating each one. One channel will feature pop/music with a fair bit of cheese, while the other will feature alternative tracks. The best of both worlds!

You can switch between the two tracks whenever you like by simply flicking a switch on your headphone set, so you don’t have to stick to the same genre of music the entire night. The tent will be full of great music, great dancing and, most importantly, terrible singing. Make sure you take a moment to take your headphones off and appreciate everyone’s dying-cat rendition of TLC’s “No Scrubs.” It’s great.

ROD

DJ Rods has been a part of your event experience throughout the year. A former student here, Rods set out to make a name for himself on the DJ circuit and he has done just that! Travelling up and down the country, DJ'ing for some industry leading bars, he will be dedicating one more night for you all in The Union bar from
midnight!

LUKAS

Lukas joined the Roehampton event schedule at the start of this academic, with nearly a whole year as your main room DJ at The Bop under his belt, he has created a modern twist to nights full of cheesy pop classics we all love on a Friday. Catch Lukas in Monte Hall 12am-4:30am.

/ / /

Why are tickets £55.00 this year and not £50.00 like previous years?

For 10 years we were able to hold the ticket price at £50.00 but this year we had to take the very difficult decision of making a small increase to the ticket price to continue to deliver a first-class Summer Ball experience for our students. We are proud to say our event is recognised as one of the leading Summer Ball events in the country and for us to be able to continue delivering such a show we must ensure it is financially stable.

/ / /

The printed booklet says "Afternoon headline to be announced", who is it and why is this?

We have to work to very tight deadlines to deliver the best possible promotion for the show; at the time we went to print we hadn't received full confirmation for this position on the line up. Stay up to date with the full line up right here on our dedicated Summer Ball website.
